Jury's out on whether or not it should be classed as an anime but it's clearly aiming for the same audience and follows tried-and-true plot structures of anime to the letter, so I'm gonna lump it in here: I think RWBY is rubbish. Overall I tend to stay away from popular shows and just watch the ones that I already know appeal to my tastes, so I usually end up watching older or seinen shows: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Psycho-Pass, etc. Couldn't really tell you why, I just didn't find it interesting enough to watch more than a few episodes and largely thought that what it was trying to do was done better by Claymore. But these are the popular genres right now so they're made cheaply and quickly to cash in on the trends, and for the most part these studios don't care whether they're putting out a quality product cause they know it'll get popular anyway with less discerning fans.Īttack on Titan didn't grab me either. As an extension to that, the "battle school" anime is becoming so oversaturated that the shows are falling into the same pattern as MMO animes. hack (specifically the downright creepy brother-sister quasi-incestuous relationships that pop up in SAO and NGNL) and they're just poorly-constructed shows that never do anything original.

hack did it years ago, and these types of series retain all the worst aspects of. And I'm not just talking about the ones that have huge hatedoms like Sword Art Online (which I also didn't like) but also ones like Log Horizon, No Game No Life and lesser-known ones like BTOOM!. The MMO anime thing has been played out to death by now.
